For the past several years ADCO NORTH has been a key contractor involved in numerous projects at the BHP EKATI Diamond Mine, located near Lac de Gras here in the Northwest Territories, some of which include the installation of BHP’s #6 Diesel Genset. This project entailed the installation and commissioning of a 4.4 MW Genset into an existing 22 MW power plant located on site. The mine is only accessible by air except for a brief period, usually around the beginning of February to the end of March each year, when an “Ice Road” is built to allow the restocking of fuel supplies and heavy equipment too large to be flown in. ADCO has also carried out the construction of the Boiler House for BHP’s Panda Surface Facility as well as the installation of several kilometers of 12” diameter steel tailings line, which are lined with HDPE “High Density Polyethylene Pipe”. ADCO still has a team on site carrying out various ongoing mechanical maintenance projects, such as the new Incinerator Building.
